The Split to Dubrovnik transfer is one of the most frequently booked routes on the Dalmatian coast. With the Pelješac Bridge open since July 2022, the route changed significantly. Here is what it looks like now.
Route and distanceSplit to Dubrovnik is 220 km by road. The drive takes 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours in normal traffic via the A1 motorway south to Ploče, then the D8 coastal road to the bridge, across the Pelješac peninsula, and south to Dubrovnik.
The Pelješac Bridge bypasses the former Neum corridor, the 9 km stretch of Bosnian territory that previously required a border crossing in each direction. Before the bridge, the same journey took 4 to 5 hours with border waits.
The Pelješac Bridge stopThe bridge opened for traffic in July 2022 and is the longest bridge in Croatia at 2.4 km. It connects Komarna on the mainland to Brijesta on the Pelješac peninsula. For guests who want to see it from below, there is a viewpoint area near Komarna before the bridge approach. For guests interested in Pelješac wine, the peninsula is Croatia's premier red wine region, producing Dingač and Postup DOC wines from Plavac Mali grapes. A brief stop at a roadside wine producer adds 30 minutes to the journey.
Pelješac wine fact worth knowing: Dingač is produced from vines on an almost vertical south-facing cliff overlooking the sea between Potomje and Trpanj. The grapes are partially dried in the sun before pressing, which concentrates sugars and produces an unusually high-alcohol (14-15%) red wine. Dingač has EU Protected Designation of Origin status.
Timing and bookingFor airport connections: Split to Dubrovnik should be booked as a full transfer, not a taxi. Drivers will wait up to one hour for a delayed flight at Split Airport before the transfer begins, and will adjust the return from Dubrovnik if the outbound schedule shifts.
For accommodation-to-accommodation: transfers run at any time, but the best driving conditions on the coastal stretch (post-Pelješac Bridge) are before 10:00 and after 17:00 in peak summer when the road has heaviest traffic near Dubrovnik.
One-way versus returnMost guests book the transfer one way, arriving into Split by flight and departing from Dubrovnik, or vice versa, as part of a multi-city Croatia itinerary. The Dubrovnik-Split transfer costs the same as Split-Dubrovnik and uses the same route in reverse.
LuggageThe E-Class handles two large suitcases plus carry-ons. The V-Class handles four large suitcases. For families with extensive luggage or groups of five or more, the V-Class is the standard booking. The Sprinter handles group luggage without constraint.
On the dayThe driver confirms departure time and exact pickup address the evening before. A named driver with a sign meets guests at accommodation, hotel lobby, or airport arrivals. The journey includes one driver-rest stop (typically near Ploče or on the Pelješac peninsula) at the driver's discretion on longer runs.
